Insights from the team

Testimonials.

Fastlane student looking out of the ceiling of a MINI Countryman
Sometimes it can be challenging to coordinate football, university and the practical assignments at BMW. But the programme modules of the Fastlane programme are designed to be very flexible, so I can schedule everything very well.

Fastlaner Simon and his mentor Sabine with a BMW i5
Through Sabine, I learned about areas at BMW that I was previously unaware of. With the support of my mentor, it is easy for me to reach out to departments and ask about possible placements. This has always worked out really well so far!
Sabine & Simon
Mentor & Fastlane participant
What I particularly appreciate in terms of my development, in addition to training and seminars, are the great mentors I have had in every position so far. They have not only supported me professionally, but also personally and helped me to progress.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs: Application process.

The precise number of positions is aligned to the demand of the company and can therefore vary.

All open vacancies will be posted on this website. Please note that there are fixed application periods for the Fastlane Programme and therefore vacancies are not online at all times.

Please note our application deadlines which you can find on this website. If your master's programme lasts three semesters, you should already apply during your last bachelor's semester. However, if your master's programme comprises four semesters, it is sufficient to apply during the first master's semester.

It is very important to us to make the selection process as simple and fast as possible for our applicants. After the application deadline, we therefore send out the invitations to the online test immediately. Based on the test results and the other application documents, the pre-selection and the decision as to who will be invited to the selection day is also made promptly. Due to the large number of positions and applications, it can sometimes take a while before the first response is received. Details about approximate time frames depending on the application period can also be found in our application process chart on the website.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs: Programme requirements.

The Fastlane Programme is in particular addressing students of the following degrees: Computer Science, Business Informatics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering/Electronics or a comparable STEM course of study. Therefore, experience in one of the following areas would be ideal: Data Analytics/Big Data, Software Architecture, Agile Software Development, Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Driving, Electric Mobility/Innovative Drives, Digitalisation, Infotainment or Customer Experience/Analytics.

Letters of recommendation from previous internships are not required to apply for the Fastlane Programme, but of course help us to get an even more objective overall impression of you. Therefore, please attach them to your application.

The Fastlane Programme is a scholarship programme and therefore counts as an apprenticeship. Previous temporary employment contracts (for example voluntary internships) are consequently not an obstacle.

Our decision is based on a comprehensive and objective consideration of all factors. The online test, together with your grades and other application documents, is part of our pre-selection process. On this basis, we decide in a first step who could be considered for our positions with their skills and qualifications. If you for example have less experience abroad but therefore more practical experience or very good grades, we would still be happy to receive your application as we assess all qualifications in total and rate them against one another. Please note that we cannot consider your application in the further selection process without the online test.

Yes! In this case, please note the following requirements:

  • EU nationals: Applications can be submitted at any time and without additional requirements.
  • Non-EU nationals: You must have a settlement permit or a residence permit for the purpose of studying (issued in accordance with Section 16b of the Residence Act).

You need very good German and good English skills.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs: Programme outline and content.

Our Fastlane job descriptions describe cross-functional areas of activity in which you will experience various stations during the programme. If you like to focus on a specific area, this is of course also possible in consultation with your mentor.

Yes, you can plan the practical assignments individually with your mentor, expressing wishes and areas of interest.

You coordinate your working hours and location during your practical phases individually. However, it is of course advantageous for you to be on-site during your practical assignments in order to be able to establish a large network. Regardless, there are modules within the programme that take place in presence – for example, trainings in our training academy or comprehensive semester workshops.

Stays abroad are not a mandatory component of the Fastlane Programme. However, you can pause your scholarship for a semester of leave to complete a semester abroad or an internship abroad (perhaps at BMW).

Yes, writing your master's thesis at our company is an integral part of the Fastlane Programme.

Our programmes are managed centrally from Munich. Events such as semester workshops and seminars also take place there. Nevertheless, we encourage our participants to complete practical assignments at our other locations (Leipzig, Berlin, Eisenach, Regensburg, Dingolfing, Landshut). These are planned in consultation with the mentors and in consideration of the respective interests of our programme participants. Master's theses can also be written at any of our locations in Germany by arrangement.

You will receive financial support for three semesters of your master's programme. If you extend your studies (for example, due to a semester of leave), you can pause the funding during this time.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs: Prospects after the programme.

After the end of the programme, many doors will be open to you thanks to our internal applicant status. You will also make many contacts during your time at the company, giving you the opportunity to build up a large network that you can later draw on when you receive a permanent employment after the programme.

After the end of the programme, all doors in our company are open to you due to your internal applicant status. However, you are not contractually obliged to stay with the BMW Group.
