Master Thesis Discrete Design Variables in Multidisciplinary Optimization (f/m/x)

THE BEST INTERNSHIP ALWAYS HAS A 'YOU' IN TEAM.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

We believe in creating an environment where our interns really can learn by doing  and where they are given their own areas of responsibility right from the start of their time with us. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Description

We, the BMW Group, offer you an exciting Master thesis on Integer Variables in Multidisciplinary Design Optimization. In doing so, you are contributing to the fundamental change of the vehicle development process with algorithms. The aim is to derive and implement methods to handle integer-valued variables within a multidisciplinary design optimization framework. Furthermore, the numerical performance of the proposed methods should be analyzed across several benchmark problems from academia and industry.

What awaits you?

  • Be part of the digital transformation and support the virtualization of overall vehicle development.
  • Research existing methods for solving mixed-integer optimization problems.
  • Derive and implement methods for handling integer-valued variables within multidisciplinary design optimization.
  • Evaluate numerical performance across several benchmark problems.
  • Become part of a dynamic team and gain insights into modern vehicle development.
  • Bring in your own ideas, gain valuable experience and get a foretaste of future vehicle projects.

Please note that your thesis must be supervised by a university on your part.

Availability for a preparatory internship (duration: 3-6 months) is desired.

What should you bring along?

  • Ongoing master's degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science or similar.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in mathematical optimization and design synthesis.
  • Practical experience in software development with Python.
  • Ideally knowledge in automotive development.
  • Very good English or German language skills.
  • Independent and structured way of working with a high level of self-motivation.

What we offer?

  • A dynamic environment in which you contribute to innovative software tools.
  • Insights behind the scenes of overall vehicle development.
  • Personal & professional development in an international company.
  • Work-life balance & flexible working hours.
  • Mobile work.
  • Attractive compensation.
  • Apartment (subject to availability & only in Munich).
  • And many other benefits - see bmw.jobs/benefits
