Description

The Quality Management department is responsible for ensuring that our cars meet all customer expectations and BMW internal requirements.  We are the voice of the customer within the plant and are responsible for steering new topics as they occur and actively managing the problem-solving process. We do this in both daily production and new product launches. The co-op will have a mix of regular reporting tasks and project-based work in office and hands-on settings.  The co-op will be responsible for regularly reporting on our problem-solving landscape and supporting the quality steering team with their current topics.  They will be involved in root cause analysis, gathering data, establishing containments, process improvements, analyzing data and testing and validation of solutions and poke-yokes. This position will allow the student to see how we monitor and control quality from a high-level perspective as well as be part of problem-solving teams developing and implementing solutions. This position is also responsible for our quality management systems.  The co-op will be involved in managing the daily operation of our quality management tools and developing new features and systems as needed.  The applications involved range from Oracle/SQL, to APEX, VBA/MS Office-based tools and other BMW-specific systems.

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Analyze new problems in daily production and launches.
  • Test solutions to problems, ensuring they are robust enough for production.
  • Support launch and series problem solving teams as needed.
  • Regularly create reports on our current quality landscape.
  •  Support team in developing, maintaining, and streamlining quality management systems.
  • Launch of completely new and facelifted BMW X Models.
  • Roll-out of a new problem management system and reporting tools.

 

Qualifications 

  • Pursuing Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial / Systems Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
  • Basic programming knowledge preferred (Matlab, Python, VBA, SQL).
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Must commit to 3 work terms for co-op positions. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
