This is a co-op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: Spring, 2nd rotation: Fall, 3rd rotation: Summer).

 

The Quality Management department is responsible for ensuring that our cars meet all customer expectations and BMW internal requirements. We are the voice of the customer within the plant and are responsible for steering new quality topics as they occur and actively managing the problem-solving process for each topic. We do this in both daily production and new product launches.

 

The co-op will have a mix of regular reporting tasks, software development and project-based work in both office and hands-on settings. The co-op will be responsible for regularly reporting on our problem-solving landscape and supporting the quality steering team with their current topics. They will be involved in root cause analysis, gathering data, establishing containments, process improvements, analyzing data and testing and validation of solutions and poke-yokes. This position will allow the student to see how we monitor and control quality from a high-level perspective as well as be part of problem-solving teams developing and implementing solutions.

 

This position is also responsible for our quality management systems. The co-op will be involved in managing the daily operation of our quality management tools and developing new features and systems as needed. The applications involved range from Oracle APEX, MS Office-based tools and other BMW-specific systems. Languages used include SQL, VBA, and Python derivatives.

 

The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Regularly create reports on our current quality landscape.
  • Support the team by developing and maintaining quality management applications such as reporting dashboards.
  • Communicate with team to retrieve necessary data and information.
  • Monitor and investigate sensor data.
  • Analyze new problems in daily production and launches.
  • Support launch and series problem solving teams as needed.
  • Management of the Plant 10 Quality Steering dashboard.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Support launch activities for new or facelifted BMW X Model vehicles when needed.
  • Data analysis of Plant 10 quality metrics, dashboards, and matrices.
  • Create, maintain, or improve APEX applications that centralize management of the team processes.
  •  Assist with improving Plant 10 or quality steering processes.
Qualifications 
  • Pursuing Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial / Systems Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • Structured problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel.
  • Willing to work hands on with vehicles.
  • General automotive understanding.
  • Basic programming knowledge preferred.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
  • Must commit to three co-op rotations. 
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
  • MUST ATTACH A COPY OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. 
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
