Master Thesis Project - Characterisation of foam on micro-level with - High Voltage Battery (f/m/x)

THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Description

We, the BMW Group, offer you an exciting and varied master's thesis in the field of passive safety simulation - high-voltage batteries. Our simulation experts work day in and day out on the development of new battery-powered vehicles. With your master's thesis, you will help ensure that our new e-models meet today´s high crash requirements.

What can you expect?

  • As part of your master's thesis, you will study the effects of the microstructure of a polymer foam on the mechanical properties at larger scales.
  • For this purpose, you will investigate the microstructure of the foam using modern computer tomography scanners.
  • In addition, the foam is characterized by Digital Image and Digital Volume Correlation
  • Based on the findings from imaging processes, you create an image-based finite element model.
  • You will gain interesting insights into the development work of high-voltage batteries in the area of crash tests and simulation.
  • You will receive excellent scientific support and will be part of our motivated, cross-functional team.

What should you bring along?

  • Master's program in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or a comparable degree
  • Understanding of finite element method, ideally LS-Dyna
  • Programming skills in Python/Matlab
  • Ideally knowledge of computer tomography and/or polymer foams
  • You are courageous and motivated to contribute your own ideas and to take new paths
  • You enjoy working in an international team
  • Very good English skills, ideally good German skills

What do we offer?

  • Comprehensive mentoring & onboarding.
  • Personal & professional development.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Digital offers & mobile working.
  • Attractive renumeration.
  • Apartment offers for students (subject to availability & only Munich)
  • And many other benefits – see bmw.jobs/benefits
