Hej! My name is James and my journey with BMW started in 2009. This was initially on a temporary contract, as I'd just graduated and my plan was to earn some money before doing a ski season in Switzerland. After 6 months snowboarding and working in a chalet hotel, I came back to BMW and have never left!
In the past 13 years, I've worked for BMW UK as a Customer Service Advisor, a Customer Service Manager and a Remarketing Manager. I then decided to take advantage of BMWs global reach and joined BMW Canada in their Remarketing team, living and working in Toronto. After 2.5 years, I decided to continue my development and moved to Sweden, to take on the role of Residual Value Specialist. Since then, the role has developed, and I've been fortunate to drive forward the development of the RV Risk topics within BMW Northern Europe.
My career path with the BMW Group highlights the opportunities available to those people who are interested in working abroad and having an international career.
In my personal time, I enjoy exercising and right now, I'm focused on training for the Oslo marathon. I find that I'm a lot more dedicated to my training when I have a goal to reach. When I'm not running in the woods, I can usually be found running after my two kids, Haydn and Harriet.
Although it was a little fortuitous how I joined the BMW initially, it's no big surprise that I stayed. I've always had an interest in the industry. From washing cars, to watching the F1 and doing an industrial placement with Toyota during my degree. I particularly like that BMW is open to and encourages the lateral movement into different business units. This gives associates the ability to get a broader understanding of the automotive industry, whilst at the same time developing the transferable skills that will help you to succeed in the future.
Today I work in the Residual Value Risk team. Together with my colleagues, we manage all the RV Risk topics for Denmark, Sweden and Norway, for both the B2B and B2C channels, and for both BMW Group vehicles and Multi Make. I thoroughly enjoy my role as it's varied, has a regional scope and has a good balance of operational and strategic tasks. Each market is different and has unique requirements, this makes the tasks challenging yet also rewarding when you can find a solution. Finally, I really like that due to the nature of the role, I get to interact with almost all areas of the business, from Finance to Remarketing, as well as all levels within the organisation.
