Reporting to the Collections and Customer Payments Manager, the Senior Collections & Asset Recovery Specialist will be primarily responsible for fraud prevention management and active monitoring of daily and monthly collection activities for BMW Group Financial Services Canada. This role will actively support in steering external Collections service providers to optimize Collections Effectiveness and gain efficiencies to ensure that all relevant KPIs are achieved. Additionally, this specialist will be required to perform ad hoc analysis and provide reporting and recommendations to combat fraud and delinquency to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Analyze data effectively to identify and investigate possible fraudulent activity. Explore and identify measures to mitigate fraud.
  • Focus on achieving operational effectiveness and efficiency by identifying and implementing process improvements. Regularly collaborate with other areas of the business, BMW subsidiaries and Munich headquarters to share best practices.
  • Collaborate with Business Units, cross-functional teams, and external agencies to gather relevant information for fraud and account investigation, and to discuss new and emerging fraud and market trends.
  • Provide fraud awareness, prevention training, and ongoing guidance to internal stakeholders, as needed.
  • Steer third party collections service providers to ensure all relevant KPIs are consistently achieved and/or exceeded. Collaborate with providers on finding opportunities to improve existing processes to optimize Collections and Recovery Effectiveness.
  • Monitor collection activities to ensure proper internal controls are in place, adherence to policies, and identification of potential risk exposures and pain points.
  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of escalated, sensitive, high-risk, and complex accounts that require specialized attention. These accounts may be referred from external partners, or assigned by Management.
  • Represent the Collections team in department or company-wide projects and initiatives, ensuring all requirements are identified and implemented as expected.
  • Act as a senior resource for team members, assisting with collection strategies, communication best practices, and technical system issues.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of vendor activities, and reports for accuracy.
  • Assess and recommend account action on delinquent accounts, managing, tracking and enacting escalations.
  • Lead the review of accounts scheduled for charge off, provide recommendations, triage Recovery accounts for collection or legal action, and place and track accounts.
  • Create, review, and/or provide feedback on various datasets, perform intermediate reporting, identify trends, and present findings to (senior) management.
  • Provide support to other Operational areas as required.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the Financial Services industry.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Collections with at least 1 year in a senior role.
  • 1-2 years of investigative experience in Automotive Finance or related industry is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed goals in a metrics driven organization. Demonstrated exceptional process improvement and reporting capabilities.
  • Fraud investigation experience is an asset.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment to make timely decisions, while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Advanced presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and results driven.
  • Intermediate (or above) knowledge in Tableau, Power-BI or similar.
  • Intermediate (or above) computer skills using all MS Office applications.
  • Siebel analytics and SQL Server skills are an asset.
  • Bilingual English / French (oral & written) is an asset.
