Technical APPRENTICESHIPS.

If you’re interested in technology, mathematics or engineering, have an eye for precision and a desire to understand how things work, our technical Apprenticeships are for you. You’ll need the physical dexterity to carry out precise work with small components, and the mathematical ability to handle complex data calculations accurately.

When you join us on one of our technical Apprenticeships, you’ll learn how we produce our exceptional vehicles, gain a deep insight into various engineering and production technologies, and be at the forefront of our sustainability drive.

You’ll be trained in a wide range of state-of-the-art automotive production and manufacturing techniques over your two to four-year Apprenticeship. The courses you cover will be influenced by the specialism you choose, but you could learn about a range of exciting topics, from robot automation to toolmaking skills such as milling and welding.

A successful career at the BMW Group is built on teamwork, enthusiasm, initiative and excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to take responsibility for the quality of your work.

"The past three and a half hears have been filled with different experiences, firstly spending five weeks at MINI Plant Oxford in their Maintenance team, learning how to maintain different systems, and to my highlight, taking part in BMW’s ‘MOVE’ program in South Africa."

My brother was an apprentice at BMW Group a few years ago. When he told me there was a work experience programme looking to bring more women into the industry, I thought it was too good an opportunity to miss. BMW Group is a world-leading car company – it’s been fascinating to see their innovation and technology up close like Automated Guide Vehicles and the new press shop.

Meeting and working with new people and learning something new every single day has been a highlight of the course so far. Networking with colleagues in the Oxford and Swindon plants, as well as those further away in Europe, has really improved my confidence and communication skills, something I always struggled with at school and college.

With BMW Group’s support I’ve really been able to focus and concentrate on my studies. I’ve grown and progressed as a person at BMW Group. My colleagues are always pushing me to work outside of my comfort zone and learn something new, allowing me to lead projects and making sure my voice is heard in meetings.

Like a few of my peers, I planned to go to university once I finished school. But I was unsure if studying full-time was for me. With my apprenticeship here at MINI, I can study for my degree whilst obtaining real experience of working life. Being paid and having BMW Group pay my university fees has also been a huge benefit.

Your development is constantly being followed, which is great. We have the opportunity to move from one department to another and write detailed reports about each one. Writing these reports has provided me with an in-depth knowledge of the whole business and my respective role within it. My understanding and knowledge of both the industry and BMW Group itself has undoubtedly improved as a result.

The most interesting project I have worked on so far is when I was tasked with changing one of the 1,200 robots used to weld each part of the cars together. I worked alongside the Control Engineers to strip the robot down and effectively rebuild it from scratch. It was a tough job, but a great learning experience.
