I’ve always been a massive automotive fan and I grew up working with cars and motorbikes. When I first heard about the Girls Go Technical programme, it was through a friend. I was studying Engineering Design at Bath College and my plan was to finish college and then go to university.

Immediately after I joined the work experience programme, I knew BMW Group was somewhere I wanted to be. There were 9 or 10 girls in my group and we got to spend time in Swindon and in Oxford, at the manufacturing plants. We played team-building games, took part in workshops and we walked the entire process chain of manufacturing a MINI. We also shadowed people in various departments to get a better idea of the different areas of the business. It gave me the chance to explore the range of jobs available.

We had the opportunity to work on our CV and interview skills, taking part in a mock interview for the apprenticeship programme. This was really helpful because I actually ended up applying for the apprenticeship and fortunate enough to be offered a space. It’s meant that I’ve been able to gain three years of work experience alongside getting my university degree which has been sponsored by the company.

I only have good things to say about Girls Go Technical and have been involved every year since. The number of women at BMW Group is growing and going on this programme was a way for us to see for ourselves that there is no reason why women can’t work here. As long as you have the interest and passion for engineering, there is no reason why you won’t succeed.
