Meet George.

The past three and a half hears have been filled with different experiences, firstly spending five weeks at MINI Plant Oxford in their Maintenance team, learning how to maintain different systems, and to my highlight, taking part in BMW’s ‘MOVE’ program in South Africa.

George, Apprentice at Rolls Royce Motorcars

My apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars started back in 2020, when I joined the maintenance team, combined with studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have nearly completed my four-year apprenticeship with only eight months left, and already have started my final role as IT Specialist within the maintenance department.

The past three and a half hears have been filled with different experiences, firstly spending five weeks at MINI Plant Oxford in the maintenance team, learning how to maintain different systems, and to my highlight, taking part in BMW’s ‘MOVE’ program. MOVE allows apprentices to take part in an eight-week placement at another plant, I was lucky enough to go to South Africa and work at Plant Rosslyn for eight weeks back in 2022. This was a brilliant experience for me to learn about a new plant in a different region, but also to live in a different environment, helping to build on who I am.

Another great experience for me was taking part in extracurricular activities, especially leading the UK Apprentice Newsletter alongside my colleague, Lauren. This publication gets sent out to five UK BMW locations and even went international for one of the editions and is worked by a group of 20 apprentices coming together to produce articles that showcase what apprentices in the UK have been up to at each location.

Working at Rolls-Royce over the past three years has enabled me to learn so many new skills, through travelling to other locations, my university studies and placements. I am very grateful for what Rolls-Royce has offered me and I look forward to what my future holds here.
