Meet Heidi, who is currently on placement with our Project and Energy Management team at BMW Group Plant Hams Hall in Birmingham and is soon to return to her studies at the University of Liverpool.
We chatted with Heidi about her year in business, and the advice she would give to anyone considering an internship.
“My biggest highlights from the past 13 months have included travelling across the UK to different BMW Group sites. From Plant Oxford where MINIs are made, to the home of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Goodwood, and the pressings plant at Swindon, as well as other smaller distribution sites.
I was also fortunate enough to travel to Munich for a bi-annual energy workshop. It was interesting to hear how each BMW Group Plant operates, noticing both similarities and differences, and how they all interlink in one big production network across the world.
I’ve really enjoyed the flexibility of my role, as no two days are the same. I could be focused on a project one day, moving on to an entirely different topic the next. In facilities, there are so many projects to get involved with, every day is a learning day.
My advice to anyone considering or starting an internship is to take the process in your stride. I have received so much support and praise from my team and other colleagues when making decisions or carrying out work. Be sure to build a rapport with those you meet, as it will help when you need their assistance. There is no end to the skills that you will develop throughout your internship.”
