Why did you decide to study sustainability?
The major challenge of how to make the modern automotive industry sustainable and climate-neutral appeals to me and was a decisive factor in my decision. Above all, the fact that by studying sustainability, I can be sure that I am actively shaping the future and being part of something big.

Have you always been interested in sustainability?
My interest in sustainability was awakened at school, at the age of 14-15, when I started to understand more about what sustainability means and why it is urgently necessary to deal with this topic in view of global warming.

What does sustainability mean to you personally?
For me, sustainability means looking to the future with courage and confidence and shaping this future in the here and now. My goal is to contribute to a balanced coexistence of people, the environment and the economy. My motivation to work professionally in this area is not only because sustainable action is absolutely necessary in view of global warming, but also because I am convinced that sustainability is fundamentally worth striving for. Accordingly, I focus much more on the positive opportunities that a sustainable world offers than on the horror scenarios that are being painted in the face of theoretical disregard.

How does your work contribute to the BMW Group's sustainability goals?
Through my dual study programme in Sustainability and Environmental Management, I hope to be trained as an expert in the field so that I can later take on a role in the area of sustainability and thus play my part in achieving our goals. I was already able to make a small contribution by taking part in the Circular Economy Challenge (CEC) in my first few months at the BMW Group. The aim of the CEC was to create a sustainable and innovative product, with us trainees and dual students creating products such as laptop bags, flower pots and hammocks in a sustainable way.

What is your idea of a sustainable world?
A sustainable world would be one in which we use renewable energy sources to meet our needs. A world where we use and recycle resources responsibly to minimise waste and where we live in an ecologically conscious way to protect natural diversity and preserve the environment.
